About Me

Screen2I have lived in the New Forest nearly all my life, only being away for part of my education and for periods of work overseas. I grew up at my family home in Ibsley and the first School I attended was Moyles Court. I studied for my GCSEs and A levels at Ardingly College in Sussex. Following my A levels I took a gap year working for Humberts (Land Agents) in Salisbury and on Minstead Manor Estate and also continued my studies taking evening classes at Brockenhurst College studying Accountancy.

From 1994 I read Rural Land Management and then Estate Management at the Royal Agricultural College (now University), Cirencester. My first job after University was with Goadsby & Harding in Bournemouth where I joined as a trainee surveyor in the Land Department in 1998. Whilst working I studied Law with the Open University.

After leaving Goadsby & Harding I worked for a number of companies in the UK, Northern and Southern Africa and the Middle East. I worked in a variety of fields including Construction, Property Investment, Banking & Foreign Exchange and Media & Entertainments and held Director level appointments.

In 2002 I concentrated on running my own companies in the UK and Northern Africa which gave me the opportunity to become more involved in local politics, with which my family had long been associated. I was elected by the Conservative Party as Association Chairman for the New Forest West Constituency in 2002 and selected as the candidate for the Downlands & Forest Ward of New Forest District Council in 2007.

Following my election to New Forest District Council in May 2007 I served as Vice-Chairman of the Employment, Health and Wellbeing Review Panel until my appointment to the Cabinet as Portfolio Holder for the Environment in November. I was elected to Hampshire County Council in 2009 for the Fordingbridge Division, the seat previously held by my Mother for 8 years. In May 2010 I was elected Deputy Leader of the District Council and in May 2015 took over the Planning & Transportation portfolio.

I currently live in Hangersley with my wife and children and work as a Chartered Surveyor. As well as District and County meetings I regularly attend meetings of the fourteen Parish/Town Councils within the area I represent. I also serve as a Hampshire County Council appointed member on the New Forest National Park Authority and as a New Forest District Council representative on the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs AONB Partnership Panel. I am the NFNPA appointed Verderer.
